Computers take decisions for us every day. But are the decisions they take fair? And what does that even mean?
This time at CS Coffee Talks Thore Husfeldt will give an accessible but complete introduction to the emerging field of algorithmic fairness. Intuitive concepts of what is fair are currently part of algorithmic decision processes, in particular because of advances in machine learning and digital governance, which – implicitly or explicitly – turns ethical considerations into formalised concepts.
Thore’s talk is on the interplay of various notions around group fairness and will try to explain these concepts in a way he would have liked them explained to himself.
We want to stress that this talk can be enjoyed by everyone as 95% of it requires zero background in algorithms. As usual, the CS Department will provide free coffee and tea - and this time, there will be snacks!
